On May 18th, AAHI, in partnership with the African American Health Program, the Latino Health Initiative, and the Community Action Agency, hosted our eleventh Empowering Community Health Organizations (ECHO) Workshop! This workshop, "Basics of Program Evaluation", is the final of our three part series focusing on health data. Our ECHO Project provides practical and professional training workshops designed to build the capacity and sustainability of community organizations.
This workshop was led by Dr. Olivia Carter-Pokras, a Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. She provided an overview on understanding the value of program evaluation, how to develop an evaluation plan and the tools available to assist community members in conducting their evaluations. To reinforce what they learned during the presentation, attendees participated in a small group exercise focusing on a fictional program for which they need to develop an evaluation for.
In addition to the workshop, AAHI also celebrated our 10th year anniversary during the evening. In attendance was Uma Ahluwalia, Director of Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, who delivered a short speech commemorating the event. AAHI was also honored to receive a letter of congratulations from the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHI-AAPI) and a proclamation was issued by Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett recognizing AAHI Steering Committee's dedicated services.
Over 65 attendees, representing about 30 organizations, came to our workshop. Thank you to our wonderful speaker, Steering Committee, Health Promoters, volunteers, and staff for making this a successful event. We look forward to seeing you again in our fall 2016 ECHO workshop!
