Lunar New Year “Tet” Festival

On January 27, AAHI attended the Vietnamese Lunar New Year “Tet” Festival hosted by the Association of Vietnamese Americans (AVA), formerly known as Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association or MVMA. The day was filled with a variety of cultural festivities. At the AAHI outreach table, health education was provided to event attendees on several important health topics such as breast cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, patient-physician communication, and local resources in English and Vietnamese. AAHI also used the Wheel of Health Education to inform the Vietnamese community on hepatitis B. Many attendees enjoyed spinning the wheel and winning giveaway prizes for answering the questions!

MCC Bone Health and Diabetes Lecture

On January 20, AAHI presented a health lecture to the Muslim Community Center (MCC) as a part of the MCC Community Education Series.  The presentation included an overview of bone health, diabetes, and local community resources and services available to Montgomery County residents.  The lecture was well-received and the audience found the information on screening and prevention for osteoporosis and diabetes to be very valuable.  Additional health resources highlighting the importance of a healthy diet and physical activity were also provided to the audience to take home and share with their friends and family.
