Best of Luck, Jasmine!

AAHI bids a heartwarming farewell to our Program Coordinator, Jasmine Vinh. Jasmine first joined AAHI as an intern, assisting staff in-office and at numerous outreach events. She then became Program Coordinator where she maintained internal/external communications, led our outreach efforts, fostered partnerships with community leaders, and helped develop our Health Promoters Program. Jasmine's enthusiasm and dedication made a significant impact on those she helped and worked with.



Jasmine, we will miss you at AAHI! Thank you so much for your hard work and commitment over the past two and a half years. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!

Resources Coordinator Opportunity at AAHI!

AAHI is seeking a highly organized and motivated individual to fill our full-time Resource Coordinator position! The Resource Coordinator assists community members by educating and connecting them with existing health and social services provided by the Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services, hospitals, and public agencies.

Responsibilities include: networking with service providers, researching potential new resources, compiling a Resource Manual which includes service maps of current providers, creating education materials, and connecting residents to appropriate services.

VNMAP SMASH-B Education & Screening Day

The Viet Nam Medical Assistance Program (VNMAP) will host an Education & Screening Day on January 25th, as part of their Screening, Management, Awareness, and Solutions for Hepatitis B (SMASH-B) Program. The program provides free hepatitis B education, screenings, vaccinations, and consultation services to its participants. Last year, SMASH-B was able to provide hepatitis B information and screenings to over 60 individuals in Montgomery County!

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month



January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month! Did you know that all women are at risk for cervical cancer? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cervical cancer occurs most often in women over age 30. About 12,000 women in the United States get cervical cancer each year. Fortunately, cervical cancer is the easiest gynecologic cancer to prevent, with regular screening tests and follow-up. Encourage your family and friends to get regular Pap tests (Pap smear) and human papillomavirus (HPV) tests to help prevent or find cervical cancer early!

You can visit CDC's webpage on cervical cancer to learn more about the disease and important screening information.

The Community and Minority Outreach Department of Holy Cross Hospital will provide health awareness information and resources in honor of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month! Blood pressure screenings will also be available. Please call 301-754-8800 for more information.

Walk With Ease

Walk With Ease is an exercise program sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation that can help reduce pain and improve overall health. If you can be on your feet for 10 minutes without increased pain, you can have success with this program. Led by a certified instructor, these one-hour classes meet 3 times per week for 6 weeks and are designed to be relaxing and enjoyable. Each session includes health-related discussion topics and self-paced group walks.

The Montgomery County Community Action Board will host a public forum and resource fair called Raise Your Voice! Poverty in Montgomery County on Wednesday, January 28th. The forum will include small focus groups about issues impacting the low-income community. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and recommendations about child care, housing, transportation, and jobs. Free food and child care will be provided at this event. The forum is free and open to the public!
