March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month! According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon or rectum), is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Nearly 140,000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer each year, and more than 50,000 people die from it. Fortunately, this disease can be prevented, by getting screened starting at age 50. Screening tests can find precancerous polyps, or abnormal growths, that can be removed. Visit CDC's website to learn more about colorectal cancer and what you can do to prevent it!
Suburban Hospital will host a Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month program this Thursday, where Dr. Ekta Gupta will shine a light on the growing impact of environmental risk factors for the development of gastrointestinal cancers and the steps we can take in defense.
