Recap: E.C.H.O. Workshop #7 - Mental Health in Our Communities

On Wednesday, May 21st, AAHI partnered with the African American Health Program and Latino Health Initiative to host the "Mental Health in Our Communities" workshop. This was the seventh workshop in our Empowering Community Health Organizations (E.C.H.O.) Project, which provides practical and professional workshops designed to build the capacity and sustainability of community organizations.

The workshop was led by the Manager of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Access to Behavioral Health, who gave a presentation on mental health, a typical encounter with a mental health professional, and local support services. In addition, there was a group exercise in which attendees had the opportunity to discuss how they would respond to certain mental health case scenarios. The night concluded with a brief question and answer session.

We were happy to see that there was a full house of over 95 attendees, representing about 43 organizations from the community. Thank you to our speaker, attendees, Steering Committee, Health Promoters, volunteers, and staff for making this yet another great workshop. We look forward to seeing everyone again in the fall for our next E.C.H.O. workshop!
