On Tuesday, April 12th the Uniformed Services University for Health Sciences Center for Health Disparities is hosting a conference in collaboration with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore during National Minority Heath Month on Health Disparities the conference is titled, "Reducing Health Disparities through Strengthening and Sustaining Healthy Communities: Stronger Together!" and it will be held at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Description: "This conference will feature locally recognized academic and community presenters addressing disparities in the health status between racial and ethnic minorities, in urban and rural settings, and the general population in Maryland and the nation. The conference will also address the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), health care reform, and its opportunities and challenges in Maryland for individuals to receive services to which they currently lack access. Lastly, this conference will highlight ongoing research programs and efforts (including community engagement programs and a community network program) that are aimed to understand the underlying causes of specific disparities and to identify new strategies to reduce them and to strengthen diverse, multi-disciplinary partnerships and perspectives."
